Counselling can help you face, understand and resolve issues that are affecting you and possibly holding you back in your approach to life. It may be associated with relationships at work, life changes, communication difficulties, conflict, depression, self-defeating behaviour - to name but a few! In some cases, the issues may relate to your past, like difficulties in your childhood, or the death or illness of someone close to you.
Mostly, I am asked to assist with relationship difficulties in both heterosexual and same sex partnerships. In a lasting relationship people face many important changes. Sometimes couples can't talk to each other about these problems. Meeting with a counsellor can be a way to open up effective communication once again.
In some cases, you may be ending a marriage or long-term relationship and need help in dealing with the issues surrounding this and gaining new direction in your life.
Does it work?
I am pleased to say that, yes, in the majority of cases it does. Please see what my previous clients say by clicking on testimonials.
Once contact has been made, we will meet and have an initial assessment which takes 50 minutes. During this time we will talk through the issues that concern you and make a mutual decision of how to move forward. We will then meet once a week usually at the same time and on the same day. After 4 to 6 weeks we will have a review.
As a counsellor, I offer a private and confidential place to discuss your worries in a supportive, understanding and nonjudgmental environment. With my training and experience, I will be alongside you as we discuss the issues affecting you.
As I am not personally involved, I can be objective without passing judgment or criticism.
My role is to assist you in gaining insight, awareness and understanding of your difficulties. From this point, we can then look at various techniques to deal with particular issues and discuss what changes you could make.
